NUTRITION AND MENU

Nutrition

We are very proud of our high quality, home-cooked meals at PHARCS.

We understand the importance of ensuring that our meals are enjoyable whilst providing a balanced nutrition to our residents.

Meals are lovingly cooked by our in-house cooks who take pride in catering to our residents’ food preferences taking into account those who require special diets for example, residents with hypertension or diabetes.

Menus are regularly and are designed to take into account cultural delights such as Booljah made from boneless salted cod or one of the favourites – Bull Foot Soup. We also design seasonal menus for:

• Carnival

• Independence

• Easter

• Christmas and many more occasions.

Additionally, we cater for residents of varying religious beliefs such as only serving fish on Fridays during Catholic Lent and offering a pork free menu to believers of certain faiths. Although we offer a variety of choices daily, our Cooks will happily prepare a different meal especially for that resident if none of the choices available on a particular day suits.

Special Dietary Needs We cater for special dietary requirements including:

• Pescatarian

• Vegetarian

• Vegan

• Gluten, Nut and Diary Free Support during meal times

Whilst our ultimate aim is to encourage independence wherever possible, if one-to-one support is required, a carer will sit with residents to help them eat their meals at a comfortable pace with dignity. This is especially important for our residents living with Dementia.

The Dining Experience at PHARCS While residents can choose to dine in their own room, we do encourage residents to eat together in dining areas so they can make the most of this valuable social time. We love it when family and friends join in the experience and they are always welcome. [add tab for sample menu at end of this page]. Remembering routines PHARCS residents are welcome to play a part in preparing for mealtimes. Helping to mix ingredients or washing/preparing vegetables are long-remembered tasks which we find helps some residents. Residents who express a wish to do so are encouraged to continue these familiar routines. It’s a great way to remember as well as a chance to retain a sense of independence. We keep noise and bustle to a minimum, avoiding any distractions that may distract residents. Meal times are kept as relaxing as possible so that residents can enjoy their meal and eat at their own pace.
